Description1n 1838, seven year old Jane Copley stitched this alphabet and spot motif sampler consisting of an upper case alphabet in eyelet stitch and a cross-stitched lower case alphabet and number sequence 1 - 11. The lines of letters and numbers and the inscription line below are separated by 6 different styles of dividing and a decorative band of 2 varieties of trees flanking the final letters of the upper case alphabet. The bottom register contains a pair of baskets and birds above a brown dog with a collar between pairs of oversize rosebuds and strawberries and small flower buds. A narrow cross stitch border surrounds the composition. Colors are gold, tan, peach, coral, green and brown.
