BibliographyBolton & Coe lists an Avis Fisk, 1740, Waltham, MA.DescriptionIn the upper half of Susanna R(owson) Fisk's sampler, the lines of two alphabets and a number series stitched in orange, blue, tan, and green are divided by 6 decorative bands above a verse stitched in black. In the lower half of the sampler, a horizontally elongated cartouche contains the maker's name, her age, and location. The entire composition is surrounded by three decorative frames, the most prominent of which is a wave pattern that is repeated in one of the dividing bands. The sampler is stitched in cross stitch and long arm cross stitch in green, orange, blue, tan, and black thread.
