Description Ann Smith's 1736 Lord's Prayer Sampler is stitched in 20 bands with dividing lines and includes 2 additional religious verses, a number sequence 1 - 25, two lines of initials, her name and date . The text is cross-stitched in alternating thread colors of green, blues, rust, and cream. The symmetrical patterns embellishing the title are centered on a crown and the letters G R probably referring to the reigning king, George II. The bands of initials and the inscription are in eyelet stitches and the last two letters in the secnd band are those of the embroiderer "A S" with the S stitched in red and followed by green heart. The bottom row features crowns, hearts, and diamonds with two boxes of initials at the end, one with the initials EMS (possibly Ann's mother ?) and the second KG , perhaps her teacher or maybe for King George.
