The National Society of Colonial Dames of America, Massachusetts 1921.DescriptionThe sampler displays two alphabets and a number series followed by a place name, "Hallowell," a town in Kennebec County, Maine. Polly Norcross, the maker, then inscribes her birthdate followed by the place name, "Pittston," also in Kennebec County. The verse is an aphorism on education. Each line of the sampler is separated by a dividing band of cross stitch patterns in colors of rust, green, purple, blue, brown, tan, black, and white.
