ProvenanceLinda Ford Wallace CollectionDescriptionVariations of pink from violet to peach, dark green, and highlights of light blue, are the colors chosen by Ann Brigham for her sampler. The pink extends to the bodies of Adam and Eve standing beneath the serpent entwined tree that center the lower half of the sampler beneath the classic
sampler verse "Jesus permit thy gracious name...". Of great interest is the highly unusual use of the word "boulting" in place of "canvas" or "fabric" in the well-known verse. (See Note below.) The rigorously symmetrical sampler displays metching pairs of lions, Baskets on mounds with swans, birds, diamonds, crowns, and several bird and branch or tree arrangements. Decorative dividing lines set off the verse and a carnation border in alternating pink and pink-purple fames the entire composition.
