DescriptionAn alphabet and verse sampler displaying the maker's mastery of the hearts, stylized florals, and geometric motifs that are characteristic of the Pennsylvania Dutch tradition. Of note is the tasseled pillow in the middle left of the composition. The somber verse reminds the viewer of the memento mori function of the sampler. The sampler highlights the diverse effects possible with simple cross stitch and cross stitch variations and a limited palette of thread colors. Thread colors are in red, black, and blue.
