DescriptionWorked in a square format surrounded by a strawberry border, the Maria Holloway sampler is a verse and symmetrically balanced spot motif composition with a arrangement of a dog chasing deer through trees along a wavy ground line in the bottom register. Colors are dark pink, greens, golds, brown and black. The verse has been attributed to the 17th-century poet Anne Bradstreet.
