ProvenanceLinda Ford Wallace CollectionDescriptionMary Threlfalls has worked a verse, spot motif sampler and mourning sampler with a title of "Britannia" alluding to the personification of Britannia in the form of a seated woman holding a trident and to a tomb with 2 putti and 2 mourning figures grieving the death of Queen Caroline. The verse is a standard rhyming sampler verse commemorating the sampler as one proof of the maker's parents care for her .education. Other motifs are paired birds, urns with flowering shrubs, roses, and trees, a stately manor, a church, a tree sheltering a deer and lion. and smaller scattered flowers and animals. Thread colors are green, brown, and blue.
