BiographyMargaret Matilda Wallace was born in Walpack, Sussex County, NJ in the Delaware Water Gap. Her father was an attorney in adjacent Pikes County, Milford, PA and shortly after her birth the family removed to Wilkes-Barre, PA where her father became the first publisher of the Wilkes-Barre newspaper. Her mother's father was Dr. Francis Smith, born in Brussels, the son of minor aristocracy. Margaret Matilda married Benjamin Alden Bidlack of Wiles-Barre, later congressman and diplomat. The couple had 5 children. After her first husband's death Margaret Matilda married Dr. Thomas W. Miner. She died in 1894 and is buried in the Milford, Pennsylvania Cemetery.
