Philena C. BedellAmerican, 1811 - 1859

Philena C. Bedell was born in 1811 in New Baltimore, Greene County, New York. Her parents were Dutchess County natives Jeremiah and Ruth Case Bedell. One of possibly 14 siblings, Philena's birth was registered at the Coeymans Quaker Monthly Meeting. She married Charles Lisk at the Dutch Reformed Church, Coxsackie, Greene County. Neither of their two children lived to adulthood. After Charles' death she married Eli Hunt and had a son Edwin. Philena died on December 17, 1859 and is buried in the Lisk Family cemetery in New Baltimore. She was a distant cousin of Margaret and Mary Bedell, Vassar Alum, Art Collectors, sampler collectors, and donors to the Vassar Art Museum and of their brother Bradbury Bedell, husband of Emmeline Reed Bedell, whose bequest forms the core of the museum's sampler collection. Mary, Margaret, and Bradbury Bedell were all natives of New Baltimore.
