BiographyTheodore Wilson Stratton ( (March 26, 1828–February 1, 1888) was 19 or 20 years old when he stitched this memorial sampler for his parents in Boston in 1848. His father, Jonas Stratton, was a constable, born in New Hampshire. His mother, Mary Duncklee, was from Andover, Massachusetts. Theodore had one sister, Rebecca who married David Stratton of Andover. It's possible that Rebecca may have stitched the verse that Theodore composed. In 1856, Theodore was a clerk in the tax assessor's office. In 1860 he married Joanna W. Humphrey, the widow of John Gill, and moved to Charlestown, MA. He died in 1888 and was buried in the Stratton family plot in the Andover cemetery, where a memorial marks the resting place of his parents and infant brothers.
