BiographyCatharine Wilsey Van Cleve Boyd was born January 22, 1821 in Hackensack, New Jersey, the daughter of John A. and Elizabeth Schuyler Boyd. Both sides of Catharine's family had lived in New Jersey since at least the early 18th Century. The middle name Van Cleve was from the family of her paternal grandmother, Elsie Van Cleve. Catharine married Samuel Schuyler in 1844 and the couple lived in New York City, where Samuel worked as an accountant, until his death when she returned to New Jersey, residing with various relatives.
