Phebe J. P. Thayer

Probaby the Phebe P. Thayer who married Willard Bailey on August 18th 1850 at Cumberland Foreside, Cumberland County, Maine just north of Portland. Willard and Phebe were possibly cousins, the Thayers and the Baileys having intermarried in several generations. Both Phebe and Willard may have been descended from Abraham Cummings of Andover, MA, a Brown University graduate, linguist, philosopher and Open Communion, itinerant Baptist preacher along the Maine coast who married Phebe Thayer of Old Braintree MA in 1781 (History of Durham Maine https://core.ac.uk/download/pdf/227505933.pdf). Their daughter Phoebe married Isaac H. Bailey and had a daughter Phebe Thayer Bailey in 1807. (https://digitalmaine.com/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1000&context=cumberland_books). Phebe and Willard's marriage at Cumberland Foreside is recorded in the registry of Poland, Androscoggin County, Maine, Willard's hometown where he was a farmer.
