DescriptionAt the top of the Rebecca Reiss sampler, seven alphabets and two number sequences 1 - 16 are worked in rows between eleven varied decorative dividing bands including a strawberry band that finishes row 4 and individual strawberries worked in queen-stitch that finishes row 10. In the bottom half of the sampler a vine-covered pergola shelters a rabbit and is flanked by two dogs, a cherry tree, a willow tree, flowering shrubs and two evergreens. Above and around the trees is a plethora of small motifs including birds, butterflies, baskets, stars, crowns, and flowering plants. The inscription - "Rebecca Reiss Her Work February the 18 1832 Eleven Years Old" and an array of 7 more dividing lines below the landscape completes the composition. The top and bottom appear to be selvedge edges and the sides are hemmed. Thread colors are green, cream, tan, pink, black, and red.
