DescriptionPietie Duiterts' sampler is reflective of the sampler style of the province of her birth Friesland in the Netherlands, a display of distinctive alphabet styles worked in cross stitch, including the large, elaborate cross stitch letters embellished with flourishes worked in back stitch or double running stitch in a contrasting color. The sampler is further decorated with intricate stylized floral, arboreal, avian, and geometric motifs as well as hearts and vases all worked in a palette of green, gold, purple, blues, red, and white.
