Exhibition HistoryPoughkeepsie, New York, FLLAC, Vassar College, "Modeling Femininity: Art and the Moral Education of Nineteenth-Century Women," January 27-March 15, 2000DescriptionA large and lush symmetrical outer border of roses, tulips, poppies and carnations emanates from a large red rose at the bottom middle of the sampler and meets at a pineapple in the middle top. An inner border of black queen stitch frames, from top to bottom, an alphabet stitched in black with two black dividing lines, verse and inscription, also in black, framed on either side by grape vines with grapes. Below, a curved black dividing line gives form to the arch of a sky in a landscape scene with a willow tree, tulips and butterflies. Thread colors are pink, green, gold, yellow, brown, black, white, and blue.
