Bibliography Bolton & Coe verse 526, p. 322, Philip Dodridge 1798DescriptionThis carefully worked sampler displays three multi-colored alphabets, a number series from 1 to 22, a verse that is a hymn by the English hymnist Philip Doddridge, and an inscription next to a mixed floral arrangement in a vase with a scalloped edge. The alphabets, verse and inscription are separated by dividing bands and a flowering vine twining around a simple frame composes the border. The sampler is worked with silk threads in shades of pink, cream, green, blue, rust, tan, and brown.
