InscribedHome is a word of magic power / To all of human birth/ It tells of many a happy hour/Around the peaceful hearth,/ And wheresoe'er our footsteps roam/ We find no resting place like home/ O, there a tender mother's love/ Our infant wants supplied,/ And there an anxious father strove/ Our youthful ways to guide,/ And wheresoe'er our footsteps roam/ We find no friends like those of/home./ Ruth Stevenson/ Leicester October 5th/ 1743 Aged 8 Years
DescriptionTwo rhyming verses, consisting of a quatrain and a two line refrain are stitched in black on Ruth Stevenson's sampler.
