DescriptionThe sampler is worked in wool threads in greens, blues, cream, tan, brown, pink, orange, brown and violet, on a linen ground. The central motif is a flowering rose bush in an urn surmounted by a large colorful bird and flanked by matching gatehouses. Matching pairs of squirrels, flowering plants in pots, fruit trees and butterflies face inward from the left and right hand sides of the canvas. smaller motifs include a sewing pillow, a butterfly, birds, hearts and diamonds.
