DescriptionA sepia toned image of a nude woman, Eve, seated with her arms wrapped around her knees and head bowed, obscuring her face. She sits in front of the tree of knowledge and in the foreground rests a partially eaten apple. The image is composed of thin, delicate lines and areas of continuous sepia tonality. This etching comes after a painting Merritt executed in 1885 entitled Eve Overcome by Remorse and exhibited at the Royal Academy in London.
