InscribedInscription on attached piece of cardboard: Portrait of Lilla Thomas Elder (the younger One) and her sister Emma Thomas, of Hastings on Hudson at three and five years old. Painted in 1857 by Jacob D. Blondel (1817-1877) Member of the American Art Union, and National Academy, and a student of William Page. Given in devoted memory of Lilla Thomas Elder, Vassar 1873 and Margaret Elder Dow, Vassar 1904 by Samuel J. Elder and Ruth Elder, Vassar 1920 to Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, New York.
