DescriptionPortrait of Caspar Netscher, half-length, directed to the right, head slightly turned to face the viewer, wearing a robe, white collar and a skull-cap; a palette with brushes in front, a small sculpture at his left, a statue and a landscape in the background; in trompe l'oeil stone border of putti and a goat with a curtain hung on the right and a high relief in the bottom part. Text at the bottom of the sheet reads "Ier. TABLEAU DE GASPARD NETSCHER. / Peint fur Bois, ayant de hauter 1 Pied 4 Pouces, fur 1 Pied de large. / Monseigneur Le Duc d'Orléans posséde Six Tableaux de ce Maître. / Ce Tableau ou l'outeur s'est représente lui meme avec les accessoires qui caracterisent son Art, est d'une beaute parfaite. / La couleur en est harmonieuse, l'effet ferme et vigoureux, et le dessin correct: tout y est etudie precieusement et sans secheresse; et / l'on peut regarder ce Portrait comme un des plus beaux qui soient sortis des mains de Gaspard Netscher. / Ce Peintre n'aquit a Prague, capitale de la Boheme, en 1636, et mourut a la Haye en 1684, age de 48 Ans. / Mle. Niquet Scrip.
