Label TextRemy Holwick is an American photographer, activist, and model based in Venice Beach, California. Her work combines elements of fashion photography with those of documentary photography. Holwick’s series Velvet Moon honors gender expansiveness and queerness, depicting various individuals in vivid garments and striking makeup. In Velvet Moon #10, Holwick’s subject is swathed in silky fabrics resplendent with floral patterns. Their head is topped with a crown of flowers in shades of fuchsia and red, echoed by the bouquet that rests in the crook of their arm. The figure is contrasted by a brilliant jade sky. This photograph was taken at Savage Ranch, a queer artist commune in the southern Californian desert outside of Los Angeles. Holwick’s vivid dreamscapes are shot with a tender empathy and aim to capture each subject’s spirit, embodying a jubilant celebration of queerness and gender expression. Julia Pippenger ’25
DescriptionColor image of a seated person with a masculine-presenting body wearing a floral shrug and skirt, with flowers in their hair, thick dark eyeliner, and holding a bouquet of flowers. In the background is a warm, minty colored sky.
