DescriptionIn the 5th century, Attic potters began to experiment with plastically modelled vases. Similar vessels had been previously produced in colonial areas, but never in Attica. A representative of "time style," this vase consists of two delicate female heads placed back to back, the neck, handle and trefoil mouth rise from between the heads. The faces are covered with a white slip over which colors would have been laid. Most of this additional color has worn away although there are still traces of red on the two mouths. Janiform female head with reamins of white gesso and red pigment. Restored; handle precarious.
