DescriptionWorked primarily in greens, golds, yellows, reds, and blues, the Ann Hall sampler consists of a column of four large vignettes above an inscription panel and flanked by a proliferation of elaborate balanced motifs- urns and floral arrangements, birds and bird cages, butterflies, flowering plants, trees, monuments hearts, diamonds, and small landscapes. Reading from the top, the vignettes are a densely worked landscape featuring a multi-part cottage, a distant mansion, and a classical belvedere. A peacock in pride with other members of the pheasant family in a wooded and flowering landscape make up the second tier. The largest and central vignette is a Harlequin and Colombine cavorting between trees. This is followed by a rooster in a flowering landscape above the rectangular inscription panel embellished with fleur de lys. The composition is surrounded by a colorful multi-floral arcaded border.
