The marble fragments were excavated in 1769/70 from the site of Hadrian's Villa at Tivoli, near Rome.The Warwick Vase was named after the Earl of Warwick who once owned the object. It was purchased for the Burrell Collection in Glasgow, Scotland in 1979.
