DescriptionThe sampler illustrates the story of the crow and the fox, a fable warning of the consequences of susceptibility to flattery. Features, in addition to the crow perched in a large tree with a grape cluster, worked in white beads, and the fox standing on his hind legs below, include a butterfly, paired birds carrying a wreath above the scene, another pair of confronting birds on the ground, and an ornamental tree in a planter. The scene is surrounded by a border of cloverleaf design.
