Exhibition HistoryLong Island, New York, Hofstra University Museum, "Yonia Faih: Remembrance," April 19 - August 3, 2012. Cat. p. 35, repr.Label TextAlong with Diego Rivera and José Clemente Orozco, Rufino Tamayo helped bring international renown to Mexican art in the mid-twentieth century. His style, however, relied less on the socially-conscious realism of his counterparts and more on recent developments in Cubism and Surrealism. Figure of a Woman shows this synthesis, conveying a sense of strength and pride through a limited color palette and broad schematic planes.
