Label TextBorn in Costa Rica to sculptor parents, Francisco Zúñiga immigrated to Mexico in 1936 and became internationally renowned for his figurative paintings and sculptures. He took inspiration from the monumental stone sculptures of the indigenous peoples of the Americas, often depicting women with an emphasis on dignity, volume, and form.
DescriptionA depiction of a woman seated in a low chair, turned slightly to her right side with her arms raised and hands on her hair. She wears a simple, loose dress and her feet are bare. The work is composed of smudges of shadow and thin lines. Terms
