Label TextAlessandra Sanguinetti’s camera finds Belinda gazing through a window, where glass holds her reflection, an unknown figure, and the outside world. Belinda performs for her reflected image as much as for the lens, while Sanguinetti records the quiet rehearsal. The Reflection stems from a larger serial project spanning the late 1990s to early 2000s, documenting the friendship between Belinda and Guille, two cousins in rural Argentina. Beginning in 1999 when the girls were nine and ten, Sanguinetti began capturing their role-playing games across seasons and years. Their performances were spontaneous, and then shaped by Sanguinetti’s presence as both witness and participant. Across the series, Guille and Belinda enact weddings, funerals, and dreams of motherhood—fantasies anchored in their lived environment of their grandmother Juana’s farm. The camera witnesses the girls’ bond and perennial intimacy and fiction, sustained across decades of collaboration.
