Label TextEach morning throughout 2010, Laurel Nakadate photographed herself crying. This convulsive archive of 365 images—shot alone in her apartment, hotels, and commercial airliners—stages grief as disciplined practice. The ritual unfolds through ambient household light, a shutter release, and the obligation to continue, day after day, whether tears arrived from genuine sorrow or performative necessity. These April entries shift subtly in posture and emotional register, while resisting narrative explanation, each image both a discrete emotional event and insistent study.
