Label TextEd Ruscha, like several other artists of his generation, is fascinated by the signs and symbols of modern life. The phrase “Here and Now” stairsteps down a box marked with the four cardinal directions. The title phrase, in capital red letters and underlined as if with blue spray paint, locates the viewer in a specific place (“here”) and time (“now”).
