Label TextMichael Mazur studied printmaking at Amherst College and during a long and prolific career made a substantial body of prints. Beginning with Expressionist woodcuts, the artist went on to experiment with etchings and engravings. Starting in the later 1970s, Mazur began making prints with themes of nature, especially landscapes, flowers, and trees. Around the same time, he began making monotypes, unique prints that are printed usually just once. Continually experimental, Vine Tree Winter III was made using two sheets of paper on which he printed certain elements and drew others with pastel to create a lush, Expressionist winter scene.
