India in Miniature: Works from the Permanent Collection

Tuesday, January 24, 2017 - Sunday, April 23, 2017
This Focus Gallery exhibition presented, on an intimate scale, works on paper from India comprised of miniature compositions in a rich spectrum of colors, patterns, and types. Dutch botanicals, Indian war elephants, Judeo-Christian angels, Rajput princes, European linear perspective, British colonials, and Hindu yogis mingle in these scenes. Some come from imperial centers like Delhi, Agra, or Lahore; most originated in the semi-independent kingdoms of the Punjab hills, Malwa plateau, or Rajasthan. The exhibition was organized by the Art Center and Julie E. Hughes (History Department).

There are works that appeared in this exhibition that were loans to the Loeb and therefore do not appear on this website.
