Facebook: Images of People in Photographs from the Collection
This exhibition examined the development of the photographic portrait over a period of eight decades, presenting a selection from the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center's collection of close to 3,000 photographs. From August Sander’s iconic portraits of the 1920s to the unique personalities captured by visionary artist Diane Arbus in the 1960s and from the theatrical fictions created by Cindy Sherman in the 1970s to the deadpan views of ordinary New Yorkers by Rineke Dijkstra in the 1990s, this exhibition offered a rare view of the history of faces in photography.
Other artists whose work was featured in the exhibition include Berenice Abbott, Diane Arbus, Richard Avedon, Walead Beshty, Rineke Dijkstra, Walker Evans, Lee Friedlander, Nan Goldin, Mark Goodman, Lewis W. Hine, Helen Levitt, Sally Mann, Ari Marcopoulos, Thomas Ruff, August Sander, Cindy Sherman, Paul Strand, Jerry L. Thompson, Andy Warhol, Weegee, and Garry Winogrand, among others.
