Room for Moore: Works from the Permanent Collection

This exhibition features eight works by British artist Henry Moore (1898-1986), one of the most important sculptors of the twentieth century. Each of those works by him centers round the idea of the transforming figure, a key theme evident in many of the artist's sculptures, drawings, and numerous prints. The display spotlights the seven-foot-tall bronze "Double Standing Figure" from 1950, a surrealistic tour-de-force. Totemic and abstract, the sculpture exudes a biomorphic energy and sense of community. Ideas of transformation and community pervade the drawings, color lithographs, and other works by Moore on view. Two photographs of the artist and his studio, by Arnold Newman and Rosalie McKenna, complete this summer exhibition.
